Avery Carpentry Contractors Ltd. was proud to play a key role in the successful transformation of Exeter Central Library — a multi-million-pound redevelopment led by Mansell (Balfour Beatty). As Devon’s largest and busiest library, this iconic 1960s building underwent an extensive 18-month refurbishment to create a modern, accessible, and inspiring hub for information, learning, and culture.
The £4 million project focused on enhancing the experience for all users, delivering improved accessibility, increased space for children’s activities, upgraded facilities across four levels, and the addition of a new café.
Our team was responsible for a wide range of carpentry and joinery works throughout the library. This included the supply and installation of new flooring, glazed screens, and internal partitioning, as well as comprehensive first and second fix carpentry using both softwood and hardwood materials. In addition, we carried out significant alteration and remedial works to the existing structure and joinery elements, often working within the constraints of the original architecture.
This high-profile public project showcases our ability to deliver detailed, high-quality workmanship within complex, occupied environments — and underlines our commitment to helping breathe new life into important community spaces.
